Expansion of the Boundaries of the District

The borders of the Tightwad Fire Protection District can be expanded through a petition process with a potential election; however, land that is already within the Warsaw Fire Protection District cannot be included in the Tightwad Fire Protection District without a joint petition to the Circuit Court--a rarely used process.

Expansion Process

  1. If the voters in an area that is not within the Warsaw Fire Protection District would like to have their land included in the Tightwad Fire Protection District, then at least 25% of those voters must peitition the Board of Directors of the Tightwad Fire Protection District and the petition must include:
    • A legal description of that land; and
    • The legal description of that land must be contiguous, that is, next to the Tightwad Fire Protection District's current boundary, which is the same as the Leesville Township boundaries.
  2. The Board of Directors of the Tightwad Fire Protection District give notice of and hold a hearing on the petition to hear testimony on the advantages and disadantages of expanding the boundaries.
  3. If the Board of Directors of the Tightwad Fire Protection District finds that all or part of the expansion of boundaries is in the best interest of the District, then:
    • If 100% of the voers in the area signed the petition, then, the boudaries of the District are expanded; or
    • An election is scheduled to determine if a majority of the voters in the area want their land to be included in the expanded boundaries of the District.
  4. If the boundaries of the District are expanded, documents must be recorded with the County Recorder of Deeds.
